Practice Nurses
The Practice Nurses can offer advice on a variety of issues including diet, exercise, smoking, alcohol consumption and cholesterol levels. They provide cervical smears, sexual health advice, childhood immunisations, holiday advice and vaccinations, as well as dressings and removal of sutures.
They hold regular clinics including Diabetes, Asthma, Coronary Heart Disease and Pulmonary Disease. Please ring for an appointment.
Seasonal flu injections are available for over 65’s and vulnerable groups.Pneumovax is offered as a single vaccination to the elderly and susceptible groups to protect against a virulent form of pneumonia.
Contraception advice and options are available including coil checks. Patients should discuss their requirements with a doctor first. Well woman/man checks are available by appointment.
Health Visitors
The health visitor team monitor the growth and development of young children from 10 days to 5 years. They also provide advice and information promoting health and wellbeing particularly for this age group. Although no longer based at Wellside, our designated health visitors will contact new parents shortly after the delivery of their baby.
Clinic Sessions and Specialist Services
Anyone attending a clinic will first have been assessed by their GP and then referred to the specific clinic. The doctor will give you details of the clinic and ask you to arrange an appointment time. Unfortunately it isn’t possible for people to turn up at a clinic without prior appointment.
All clinics are by appointment only: please enquire at reception for times of appointments with:
- Cryotherapy: as arranged by the doctor
- Diabetes: as arranged by the practice nurse
- Asthma: as arranged by the practice nurse
Adult Immunisation programme
Tetanus and polio immunisation is recommended. If you have never been immunised please contact the surgery to make an appointment to see the nurse. If you are travelling abroad please telephone the surgery and make an appointment with the nurse in order to work out a vaccination programme. This appointment should be made at least two months prior to travelling. Not all vaccinations are available at the surgery but the nurse will be happy to advise.
Antenatal Care
Appointments with the midwife are no longer available at either surgery as all antenatal care is now based at Beckett Children’s Centre, Stockbrook Street, Derby where care for all our patients is now provided. After a positive pregnancy test you will be advised how to contact the centre.
Postnatal Care
Once the baby has been delivered the mother can expect post-natal care at home from the midwife. At a post-natal appointment when baby is 6 weeks old, the doctor and nurse will check that both mother and baby are doing well. At the same time the child’s immunisation programme will be established. Please remember, if you haven’t already, to bring baby’s registration forms and your red book.
